"Heroin by Jost Sauer" is a very informative article. I enjoyed reading the article as I have a 27 year old son who has been struggling with Heroin adduction for 10 years. What you describe is your article is a clone of my son. My son came to me in desperation in 2007 and asked if I would finance a rehab centre as he admitted he had a serious heroin problem (unbeknowns to me) and that he wanted to get his life back. He had been on a methadone program for several years that I wasn't aware of and had missed a few weeks of attending - so they kicked him off the program - he had started using again and when he realised he couldn't afford his habit of $500 a day - he needed to do something to turn his life around. My husband (his step-father) withdrew $24k from his super fund as a loan to my son and my son and I went to Narconon for an interview. It was a very expensive rehab centre and as I knew nothing about drugs - I was very naive about Ron Hubbard's practices. My son hated being there - I drove to Warburton every Sunday religiously and wrote to him every 2nd day - to ensure he had family support. He lasted 6 months and was kicked out on New Years Day for being involved with some former drug addicted people on the program (who decided to make a drink containing potato and vegemite - which they saw as alcoholic) and against their principles. My son reassociated himself with friends who were users and within 3 mths was using again. He has been on a downward spiral for sometime and I have given him many opportunities to change his life. For the last 2 years he was in a share house situation and working as a fish filleter 7 days a week and on a Bupe program - things were looking up (I thought!) - but realise now that you should never let your guard down. He hooked up with some old friends in Sept 2010 for his birthday celebration and started using again. He has been kicked out of his share house (stealing off other house mates and porning their wares at cash converters) and he quit his job as he started stealing from the takings and was scared of getting caught). He is now homeless - I am not sure where he is - he has no mobile and only calls every now and then when he wants money - he does want to get his life back on track (but he has said this a hundred times). By reading your article I can now associate with where he is at - but he has got to want to change and not use heroin. Thank you
